Features / Highlights
Arlington Heights Veterinary Hospital - North is defined by its deep commitment to compassionate and anxiety-reducing care, setting a high standard for veterinary services in the Indiana area. Their most distinguishing features revolve around their progressive approach to pet well-being.
- The "Chill Protocol": A highly praised feature, as noted in customer reviews, the Chill Protocol involves administering a combination of veterinarian-prescribed calming medications (often Gabapentin, Trazodone, or Melatonin) before the visit. This multimodal approach is designed to significantly reduce anxiety, fear, and stress, enabling a much calmer, safer, and more thorough exam, transforming a traumatic visit into a positive, 'wagging-tail' experience.
- Focus on Fear-Free Handling: The staff, exemplified by positive interactions with team members like Cheyenne and Blaine, prioritize low-stress, fear-free handling techniques. They are trained to recognize and respond to signs of fear and stress, using minimal restraint and positive reinforcement (like treats and praise) to build trust and prevent the cycle of fear that can develop after negative veterinary experiences.
- Advanced Diagnostic Tools: The hospital is equipped with modern technology, including X-Rays, Ultrasound Services, and a Pulse Oximeter for anesthesia monitoring. This ensures accurate and swift diagnosis of complex medical issues.
- Comprehensive Life-Stage Care: Beyond basic vaccinations, the practice offers specialized care for all life stages, from Puppy & Kitten Services—which include advice on socialization and early training—to dedicated Senior Pet Care and the emotionally complex area of Hospice & End Of Life Care, showing a commitment to every moment of a pet's life.
- Behavioral Medicine Integration: The presence of Pet Behavior Counselors and a focus on Pet Behavioral Counseling as a listed service highlights their dedication to treating mental and emotional health alongside physical ailments, addressing issues that dramatically impact the quality of life for pets and their owners.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My girl has never hurt anyone, even defensively, but she’s been muzzled at most vet visits because she’s terrified and she wails. I hadn’t been offered any alternatives at other vets, and had never been given the option to stay in the room during vaccinations. I’ve worked with animals professionally, and I know it doesn’t mean much when a pet parent says “she doesn’t need muzzled.” Nobody wants their baby in a muzzle, even when they may need it briefly. But the vet tech advocated for my doggo (tears) and said he just didn’t think she was a muzzle dog. Dr. Dale then presented the “Chill Protocol” to me and I wanted to hug his neck. We went home with some calming medication, came back the next morning, and Snuggie Bear had the best visit of her life! She was poked and prodded and still walked away with a wagging tail and 3 new friends. Now she’s snoozing on her pillow. This has never happened. She’s never NOT spent hours hyperventilating and shaking after the vet. It’s always a pretty anxious time for both of us, so this was a turning point. I am SO grateful for Blaine, Dr. Dale, and the whole crew here. Thank you for taking care of my pup, and for accommodating me as well. Best Vet Award.
June 21 · Stevie EllerCheyenne is a new member to the team (2nd day) & I’m a recently new dog owner to a 3 yr old bully pit, Kodak. Her voice was sweet & calm and never gave an answer she wasn’t sure of, she confirmed & answered any and all of my anxious concerns scheduling and knowing what to expect for a first time dog owner & vet visit. She did absolutely wonderful! & the kind voice in the background helping her was so helpful to Cheyenne while she assisted me on the phone. Amazing first interaction!
August 26 · Jessica RothThere are no USDA Accredited Veterinarians at this practice.I have gone here a few times with my 3 pets. We will be going to a new practice. The building layout/design is absolutely impractical for a vet practice. IT IS LOUD!! You can hear everything going on. What people are saying behind the walls and doors. It's extremely awkward and unprofessional when you can hear opinions about yourself and your pet literally a foot away, with a thin wood door as the only barrier. You can hear inside the other rooms, listen to a whole other appointment. All of their problems. It's an OPEN space, similar to that of a sheet metal garage with sectioned off rooms. Open ceiling and everything echoes off each other. I can't imagine the safety concerns with surgeries and all the noise. It's a very stressful and loud place to be.The reception staff are absolutely uneducated in the veterinary field. All questions are met with I don't know. I asked for an estimate on a sanitary shave for 9 lb cat and the lady said she didn't know, let me go check, etc. She went to the back, announced "Annnd there's no one free." came back, moved the mouse around on her computer a bit then told me it was $800. I was then sent as estimate via email after calling about it again except I went directly to the doctors this time ( I was certain the lady didn't give me the correct estimate having previously worked in the veterinary world.) I was right, new estimate was $400. So the receptionist had just said whatever number she wanted I guess.. Just very unprofessional. They also just keep signing new people in for their appointments and not the lines of people waiting to get out of the practice. Creating sort of a chaotic traffic jam of people and animals trying to leave/ come in. This has happened multiple different times I've gone in. Every single time they have no clue how to run a vet reception. The staff do not respect or care if you were previously a vet technician for 7 1/2 years and will talk to you like you know nothing. Sales pitch after sales pitch on unnecessary treatments, preventions, vaccines that were obviously not applicable to any of my pets. Not the reason I'm there. They are up to date on literally everything. Like it was truly awful seeing how it's more about money to them. I don't know how many times I had to say I was experienced hoping they'd stop and just get the doctor. This vet practice is extremely expensive! $$$$Their online pharmacy is horrible to work with. Medications aren't delivered in the 3-5 business days they claim to be, so expect a 3 week wait. Sometimes it will randomly cancel your order as well so you have to keep checking your order is still valid. It is extremely difficult to get ahold of anyone via phone. This has been a very disappointing and stressful experience. I wouldn't recommend this practice for your fur babies. The owner Lori is immensely unprofessional. Sarcastic and cheerful on the phone when you're clearly distressed expressing how you've been trying for weeks to get services done. Like she could care less about my experience. Extremely unprofessional.
October 14 · Dallas W.Everyone from those who answered the phone, the front desk, and the vet, especially Dr Dale all were friendly, calm, compassionate, and took the time to explain in great detail. The wait for appointments was a short time, even squeezed us in on a full day. I truly appreciate all they do for our furry friends and family. My favorite cat will be missed. Thank you.
January 13 · Song BrewerWe're visiting the area and our dog needs regular allergy shots. I asked the family where they go and they said Arlington Heights - North. We're closer to the south vet, but I'm so glad we went here. Everyone was delightful and took good care of our girl. I highly recommend them.
