Features / Highlights
Cave Creek Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery’s dedication to equine health is demonstrated through several standout features that distinguish it as a premier specialty center in Arizona:
- Arizona's Only Esaote MRI: The clinic is proud to be the only veterinary facility in Arizona equipped with the Esaote MRI. This state-of-the-art diagnostic tool is specifically designed for large animal imaging and is considered the "gold standard" for diagnosing orthopedic injuries, allowing for high-resolution images of bone and soft tissue in the lower limb to pinpoint lameness sources that traditional methods might miss.
- Dual MRI Options (Standing and Recumbent): They offer both standing and recumbent MRI options. The standing MRI uses light sedation to image the lower limb without general anesthesia, while the recumbent (Esaote) MRI provides superior image quality for deeper diagnostic clarity and imaging beyond the distal limb, ensuring the safest and most effective approach for every horse.
- Specialization in Lameness and Performance: The practice is deeply focused on Sports Medicine, performing Lameness Examinations daily. Their systematic work-up process, as praised by customers for a rope horse exam, ensures a clear diagnosis and a structured plan of care for equine athletes from various disciplines.
- Advanced Regenerative Therapies: The facility offers a full spectrum of Regenerative Medicine services, including Stem Cell Therapy and PRP Therapy. These advanced treatments are crucial for accelerating healing and improving outcomes for orthopedic and soft tissue injuries in performance horses.
- Comprehensive Surgical Capabilities: They are equipped for complex surgical procedures, from routine Minor Surgical work to extensive Orthopedic and Soft Tissue Surgery, including Emergency Surgeries. This level of in-house expertise minimizes the need for referrals outside of the North Valley area.
- In-House Expertise and Collaboration: The veterinary team is composed of specialists who are themselves horse enthusiasts, with a deep understanding of equestrian sports. They also collaborate with external experts, such as an independent equine nutritionist consultant and a veterinary radiologist, to ensure the highest standard of multidisciplinary care.
- Full-Service Equine Care: Unlike general practices, their specialized services are complemented by essential routine care, including Preventative Health Care, Equine Dental Surgery, and the option for convenient Farm Calls.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Amazing state of the art facility! Dr. Martin and his staff were professional and thorough. Dr. Martin took the time to fully explain and use visualization to understand my mare’s diagnosis, and come up with the best treatment & recovery p!an. Such a positive experience!
July 09 · Pattie ColemanOur horse needed a lameness exam. (Rope horse). Dr. Vidal did a very thorough work up and outlined a plan of care to.follow. All the staff were friendly and comfortable working with horses. Worth the 75 min drive to get an expert opinion. Fingers crossed our horse recovers.
June 22 · Jo MejiaWe first met Dr. Videl last winter when our horse came up very lame. Dr. Videl was a pleasure to work with. He was patient, kind, and extremely knowledgeable in diagnosing and successfully treating our horse. Other vets had looked at our horse (from another clinic) and were unable to diagnose the root cause of her lameness. Thanks to Dr. Videl, with the help of Dr.Aristizabal, our horse is ready to compete again. It was a long ordeal but I credit these two vets for making out horse healthy again! As a side note, when we were going to buy another horse in Texas this spring, we asked Dr. Videl to review the prepurchase exam along with the x-rays. Dr. Videl found something on the x-rays the other vet missed. This resulted in us not buying the horse. Again, Dr Videl was thorough and did an outstanding job.Thank you all at Cave Creek Equine!
