Arizona Canine Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Introduce
For Arizona pet owners whose active dogs have suffered an injury, finding a highly specialized veterinary team is paramount to ensuring a full recovery and a return to an active, pain-free life. Arizona Canine Orthopedics & Sports Medicine (ACOSM) in Scottsdale is the premier destination, standing out as one of the only veterinary surgical practices in the state dedicated 100% to canine orthopedics. This singular focus allows their team, which includes respected board-certified surgeons like Dr. Brian Petrovsky (often referred to as 'Dr. P' by clients) and Dr. Ross Lirtzman, to deliver a level of precision, experience, and commitment rarely found elsewhere.
ACOSM is not a general practice; it is a specialized center built on the core values of consistency, precision, and quality outcomes. They handle the most common and complex orthopedic issues, with a particular expertise in the Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) procedure for Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) tears—the canine equivalent of an ACL injury in humans. From the initial private consultation, which focuses on thoroughly educating the pet owner about the anatomy, the procedure, and expected recovery, to a truly comprehensive, all-inclusive pricing model, the focus is entirely on the dog's well-being and the owner’s peace of mind.
The exceptional care is a common theme among local customers. One client, nervous before her dog's TPLO surgery, highlighted the incredible support from the entire staff, from scheduling reminders to night staff updates with pictures of their recovering pup. The dedication of the surgical team, who will take time to love on a nervous dog during a consultation, makes it obvious that the entire staff truly loves dogs. This combination of advanced surgical expertise and profound compassion is what makes ACOSM the top-rated choice in the Valley for specialized canine care.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We're officially 8 weeks post TPLO surgery and while I was so nervous before we started the process of finding a surgeon, I can confidently say we have been so well taken care of. From calling to schedule the consultation, to reminders before appointments, to the night staff taking care of our girl (and sending updates via text with pictures), to all of the follow-up the whole team at AZ Canine Ortho has been incredible. We even got to watch a live-stream of the surgery (which was so cool). You can tell when you first walk in that everyone on staff truly loves dogs. Dr. P really took his time and made sure we understood what we were getting into starting with how common a CCL tear is, what is happening with the anatomy, what a TPLO actually consists of, and what we could expect from recovery. For most of our consultation he was on the floor loving on our girl and it was so obvious that she was immediately comfortable and adored every staff member she came in contact with. The price we were quoted for our ~70lb pup was right in the middle of what my research prepared me for and this price covered EVERYTHING. Every x-ray, every follow-up appointment, all the medications and tools like e-collars and lick-sleeves we were sent home with. Everything. Dr. P even called in an additional prescription on his day off when we found that we needed to add another med to keep our pup a little more sedated after surgery. We chose to do our initial consult with AZ Canine Ortho because they had the highest Google rating in the Valley with great reviews and I can confidently say we made the very best choice we could have.
September 30 · Rene' LovecraftThis facility is amazing from first contact to final appointment. The staff worked with us to prepare Wendy for her TPLO and were able to adjust when we needed more time to clear a skin infection she had not relating to her surgery. They went above and beyond helping us get her the prescriptions she needed by calling multiple locations to find the needed drug. They treated us like we were their top priority every single encounter and really helped her get the best outcome imaginable. She is ready to dive into all her favorite activities again after 12 weeks and we could not be happier.
September 17 · J SThey are the BEST. We've never received such great care from a loving, kind and competent staff. Dr. Petrovsky is so wonderful. He is brilliant, accessible and explains things thoroughly. He repeated how special and smart Sadie is and walked us carefully through every step of her surgery and recovery. I would recommend NO ONE ELSE. I am a doctor myself, so I KNOW good care.
October 04 · Judith EngelmanDr. Lirtzman is truly a lifesaver. He saved my Great Pyrenees son, Kona. He had horrible hip dysplasia on both hips as a puppy. We had seen another surgeon prior who told us nothing could be done for the right hip except a FHO, which to us, seemed barbaric and would not solve anything, and would cause more issues. Dr. Lirtzman said he could do a total hip replacement on both hips. The right side, the really bad one, he said it was risky, but thought he could make it work and stay effective as long as we kept him under a certain weight. Well my boy just turned three this month and Dr Lirtzman was able to successfully replace both of his hips. He is a happy, healthy guy now. I owe everything to Dr. Lirtzman and his amazing staff. THANK YOU, we truly love you all!
July 24 · Sherry LeachGoose has been doing so well since her TPLO surgery. Dr. P and everyone at the clinic was so kind and helpful throughout this process! It’s a long recovery but so worth it! Since recovering she has never been more mobile in her life!:) Definitely recommend! Thank you everyone!!!
