Don’t schedule anything with Brian Ward.I just picked up my dog from gainesway clinic in Lexington where Dr. Ward was scheduled to do her TPLO surgery today, after canceling last week when he said they were going to get 6 inches of snow. The forecast was for none and that’s what happened.Nevertheless, the surgery was rescheduled for today and I dropped Kona off at 8am as instructed and called to let Dr. Ward know I had done so. His assistant said they were starting a surgery in georgetown and would be heading down afterwards.I called gainesway at 1:25 and was told Dr. Ward had not yet shown up. I then called his number and he answered. He immediately said to stop calling him and my continual calling was not making him go any faster. As I hadn’t called in almost 6 hours, I was stunned by this. He kept talking-loudly- over any attempts I made to have a civil discussion as to what was going to happen-or not- with my dog’s surgery. He said “this isn’t the way we do things and I was welcome to go pick up my dog” I questioned him since the surgery would be beginning so late in the day, if she would be staying overnight. “ that’s up to you”, he stated. Gee thanks, great medical advice. I picked up my dog from gainesway 30 minutes later.Rude doesn’t begin to describe his attitude. He may very well be a talented surgeon. But I certainly wouldn’t trust him with a pet centipede. There are too many other choices for great surgeons where you don’t have to listen to a one sided harangue or wonder what’s happening. I suggest you find one. Not this guy. - Gary Nickell

The goal is to provide exceptional surgical and internal medicine expertise in a familiar, comfortable, and often more cost-effective environment.

Dr. Ward and the team specialize in a variety of complex procedures, focusing on major areas like animal surgical procedures, internal medicine diagnostics, and surgical services. The mobile nature of the practice means that they travel to your local vet's clinic, bringing their specialized equipment and expertise right where you and your pet are already comfortable.

  • Base Address: 112 Timberwood, Crittenden, KY 41030, USA

While the service comes to your clinic, the base of operations is situated to ensure widespread coverage across Kentucky. Because the service is conducted within your established veterinary clinic, the accessibility features are tied to those host locations. However, their base of operations does note key accessibility for clients who may need to coordinate logistics directly:

  • Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot: Accessible parking is a noted amenity for the Crittenden location.
  • Planning: Appointments are always recommended, as this is a referral-only specialty service. Your primary veterinarian will be responsible for coordinating the scheduling with Veterinary Mobile Surgical Services.

Services Offered

Veterinary Mobile Surgical Services specializes in complex and advanced procedures that require the skill and training of a specialist surgeon. Their expertise spans major surgical disciplines as well as internal medicine support.

  • Animal Surgical Services: A wide array of procedures focusing on restoration of function and treatment of complex diseases.
    • Orthopedic Surgery: Procedures for injuries involving bones, joints, and muscles, such as Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) repair (like TPLO - Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy, a common specialty procedure), fracture repair, and complex joint surgeries.
    • Soft Tissue Surgery: Procedures involving internal organs, mass/tumor removal, hernia repair, and various corrective surgeries in the abdomen, chest, and other soft tissues.
    • Emergency and Urgent Care Surgery: Addressing critical and time-sensitive surgical needs when called upon by a partnering clinic.
    • Specialized Procedures: Including corrective surgeries for conditions that may require advanced expertise, such as certain complex heart or congenital defect repairs (as evidenced by successful community reports).

Features / Highlights

The unique advantages of choosing a mobile surgical specialist like Veterinary Mobile Surgical Services make it an exceptional resource for Kentucky pet owners:

  • **Expertise of a Traveling Surgeon:** Access to a highly skilled, dedicated surgeon, Dr. Brian Ward, with extensive experience in both complex orthopedic and soft tissue surgical procedures, who partners with local vets.
  • **Convenience and Comfort:** Your pet receives specialty surgery without the stress of travel to an unfamiliar referral center. The pre-operative and post-operative care is managed by your known, trusted family veterinarian.
  • **Complex Orthopedic Focus:** Known for performing advanced orthopedic surgeries like TPLO, which is crucial for large and active Kentucky dogs with CCL tears, helping them regain full mobility and quality of life.
  • **Cost Efficiency:** By utilizing the infrastructure of your local veterinary office, this mobile model often presents a more affordable pathway to specialty surgical care compared to large, centralized referral hospitals.

Contact Information

To arrange for a specialty surgical consultation with Veterinary Mobile Surgical Services, the initial step is always to speak with your family veterinarian. They will manage the official referral process and coordinate scheduling. For direct inquiries from veterinary offices or to confirm information, the following contact details are used:

  • Address: 112 Timberwood, Crittenden, KY 41030, USA

The official phone number is generally used by referring veterinary practices to schedule the mobile service, but may also be used by clients seeking general information after their primary vet has initiated a referral.

What is Worth Choosing Veterinary Mobile Surgical Services

For Kentucky pet owners facing the stress of a needed surgical procedure, choosing Veterinary Mobile Surgical Services is a strategic decision that prioritizes both expert care and convenience. The most compelling reason to select this service is the ability to keep your pet in the safe, familiar environment of your current veterinarian's office while still receiving specialized, high-level surgical expertise. This combination significantly reduces the anxiety of the pet and the logistics burden on the owner.

The specialization in complex procedures, particularly in orthopedics (such as TPLO) and soft tissue issues, is not a service offered by all general veterinary practices. By working with a mobile specialist, your local vet is essentially able to expand their service offering, ensuring a seamless continuity of care. The pre- and post-operative monitoring is managed by the veterinary team you already know and trust, while the procedure itself is performed by a surgeon dedicated solely to complex animal surgical services.

While one community review noted difficulties with communication and scheduling, other reports speak to the surgical skill of Dr. Ward, even attributing a successful, life-saving operation on a small dog with a heart condition—a testament to high-level capability and a willingness to take on challenging cases. When the welfare of your pet requires expert surgical intervention, Veterinary Mobile Surgical Services offers a high-value, locally accessible, and specialized option right here in the Kentucky area. The service is a vital link between general practice and advanced specialty care, making it an excellent choice for a wide range of complicated veterinary needs.
