Banfield Pet Hospital Introduce
For pet owners in Nicholasville, Lexington, and the greater Central Kentucky area, Banfield Pet Hospital presents a comprehensive approach to preventive veterinary care. Located conveniently within the Brannon Crossing PetSmart, this Animal Hospital offers a wide array of services designed to support the lifelong health and wellness of dogs and cats, as well as exotic pets. The clinic's core philosophy centers on proactive Pet Medical care, which is primarily delivered through their signature Optimum Wellness Plans ($OWP$).
Banfield provides a full spectrum of general veterinary services, from routine Vaccinations For Pets and General Pet Care to more involved procedures like General Surgery and Diagnostic Testing. The hospital’s corporate structure allows it to offer standardized services and specialized plans like the Dog Packages and Kitten Plans, helping Kentucky families budget for the essential, ongoing needs of their animal companions. These packages typically cover routine exams, vaccines, and certain lab work, making it simpler to manage Preventive Petcare.
However, potential clients should approach this corporate-backed model with informed caution, as some customer experiences highlight significant issues. While the range of services is extensive, a recent review brought to light concerns regarding in-hospital monitoring, communication, and the handling of serious or Urgent Care cases, particularly for a kitten that had ingested rat poison. This experience raised crucial questions about the level of attentive care and rapid, knowledgeable response to severe symptoms, leading to a heartbreaking outcome for the pet and feelings of failure and distrust from the owners.
Furthermore, the clinic's membership and financial policies have been a source of frustration. A client noted that promises of "easy cancellation for FREE" from their membership were later contradicted by a requirement for a substantial $500+ payment to terminate the contract without penalty. This highlights a potential area of difficulty regarding billing and contract clarity for pet owners committed to a monthly plan, leading to feelings of being "stuck paying almost $50 a month for a pet hospital that we don’t trust one bit." Therefore, while the extensive services are a strong offering, prospective clients are strongly advised to meticulously review all contract details, especially concerning the Optimum Wellness Plans and cancellation terms, to ensure the services and financial obligations align with their expectations and pet care philosophy.

The Banfield Pet Hospital in Nicholasville is best suited for Kentucky pet owners who value the convenience of an all-inclusive, corporate-backed veterinary service and who plan to utilize the Optimum Wellness Plans for predictable, routine Preventive Petcare. The $OWP$ offers a significant advantage for budgeting, providing unlimited free office visits, two comprehensive exams annually, and all necessary Vaccinations For Pets under a monthly payment plan.
However, clients must be fully aware of the corporate nature of the practice. While the large service list—including Diagnostic Testing and General Surgery—is attractive, the facility has received extremely negative feedback concerning the handling of serious or critical cases, particularly regarding the monitoring and communication during a day-long hospitalization for severe symptoms. This history suggests that for pets with severe, complex, or life-threatening conditions, a dedicated Veterinary Emergency hospital or a locally owned practice with a strong reputation for critical care might be a more cautious choice.
For routine Pet Medical needs, like annual vaccines, Dental Cleanings, and Parasite Control, the convenience, extended hours, and structured $OWP$ of the Nicholasville Banfield Pet Hospital are clear benefits. It is a modern, inclusive facility (LGBTQ+ friendly) that offers many services under one roof. The critical takeaway for all potential clients is the necessity of scrutinizing the financial commitment and cancellation clauses of the Wellness Plans and setting clear expectations for communication, especially when dealing with critical pet health concerns.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Extremely disappointed and heartbroken by the care our kitten received. If I could give ZERO stars I would. We brought our kitten in at 8:00 AM after she got into rat poison a week prior and had already been taken to the emergency vet to have her stomach pumped. She was showing serious symptoms of difficulty walking, labored breathing, and extreme sleepy. We clearly communicated everything that we had been seeing to the staff. They told us she would be monitored throughout the day and undergo a wellness check. At 3:50 PM, we received a call saying she was “perfectly fine” eating, playing, and acting like a normal healthy active kitten. This seemed completely off given the state we brought her in.We arrived at 5:00 PM to pick her up and continued expressing how bizarre this was given what we were seeing but the staff dismissed them insisting our kitten’s sleepiness was normal or possibly due to medication she was previously prescribed for deworming. We mentioned she still couldn’t walk properly they claimed they hadn’t noticed anything unusual. Even more concerning, the vet admitted she would need to “read up” on the effects of rat poison in kittens. Shouldn’t this be basic knowledge for a veterinary professional? Then came the most alarming part: we asked to see her so we could show them ourselves. Moments later, they returned to tell us she was covered in her own urine and feces so they had to wash her off before bringing her into the room with the doctor and us. After we put her on the ground, she could not walk. Only then did the doctor acknowledge there might be a serious issue and said our kitten was now showing signs of permanent neurological damage. So they let her sit in a CAGE all day while she is pooping and peeing on herself, KNOWING the concerns and symptoms we told them, and didn’t bother to even check on her, while they have been telling us she is perfectly fine this whole time! Now the doctor says she is permanently neurologically damaged, when not even 5 minutes before hand she was saying she was fine. UNACCEPTABLE!We feel completely failed by this clinic. Our kitten deserved attentive compassionate care and instead was neglected and misdiagnosed for an entire day. Heartbreaking and inexcusable.
June 09 · Trinitty SheltonWe were originally told that we could get an easy cancellation for FREE to our membership, whenever we wanted to end it. Come to find out, they tell us later on that we can’t cancel our membership for FREE unless we make a $500+ payment to them. Now we’ve been stuck paying almost $50 a month for a pet hospital that we don’t trust one bit and won’t ever see again.Horrible communication, unclear test results, and extremely unreliable as a company as well. There’s a reason that former employees of this company have written and posted harsh articles about this place.Take your pet somewhere that they actually care for you, not for corporate greed.
July 14 · Noah ClarkDr Boone and the staff at Banfield Brannon Crossing has always been exceptional. They have always been caring and prompt when it comes to caring for my animals. I couldn’t imagine taking my animals anywhere else.
July 02 · Robyn MalicoteWish google would allow no stars on reviews. With 3 people in line, is it normal customer service to take the person that came in LAST??? Just needed a reprint of my expired prescription. But nope, the person that came in 10 minutes after I did was helped first. The "receptionist" asked if I was there for (a word I could barley hear abov her whisper) & I told her I just need a new script. She didnt acknowledge me after that didnt say okay it will be just a moment. Nothing. Just proceeded to check out the perosn after me. This is why I take all of my animals to Animal Hospital of Nicholasville. They have the most Caring, & Compassionate people.. Avoid taking any animal no matter the breed or type to Banfield.
June 23 · Mindy PBrought Charlie in for appointment at 3 they put us the vet room waited 20 min for the nurse to get him for shot. She ask about ears and nails I thought they were being nice. I said you can check his nails , she than said 2250 I said no thank you. I belong to the club and at the salon nail trims are included.. Not a good 2 vist!
