Jefferson’s staff confirmed he had a urinary blockage and that he would need life-saving treatment. I expressed my concerns about the guilt of having drained my savings in order to save a different beloved pet earlier this year as well as an emergency trip to my home state for a human funeral, and feeling like I was a bad cat parent at even thinking that I wouldn’t be able to afford to save him. Thankfully, because we’d noticed his change in behavior so quickly, he was able to be treated as an outpatient and monitored at home vs staying in the hospital. It is only because Jefferson cared enough to give us that option that Charley Boy is alive today. The environment was judgement free, the staff were all kind and empathetic from the moment we walked through the door, and they gave us as many options as they could manage in order to help us save him. I could not be happier with the way we were treated, the way they cared for him, and the outcome. Charley is incredibly important to me, and the fact that he’s purring next to me now is solely because of the wonderful humans at Jefferson Animal Hospital. I cannot thank them enough for saving my boy’s life. Thanks to them, my adventure cat will continue to be able to find new adventures.
July 18 · Lucas DionneThis is my boy Saint Lee. He was not our pet, but our sweet son of 12 years. We rushed him in from 45 minutes away. They took the time to get the stretcher to the car and gently assisted our boy out of the car. Dr. keel was extremely thorough and walked us through his findings. Ultimately it was beyond anything anyone could do (we would have “Sold the farm” for our boy. They gave us all the time we needed. When it was time, Dr. Keel went at our pace and held/rubbed our sweet boys paw as he helped him cross over. I couldn’t have asked for more sweet and sympathetic people as I had helping us that night. There is a special place in heaven for Dr. Keel and his staff.
June 01 · Elizabeth BrummettI went in very late with my senior dog Thor, he had been having trouble that day. The staff were kind and helpful, they did some X-RAYS and walked me through each of them so I could see the issue. They explained the process that would need to happen and even put together an estimate for me. I didn't realize it would be over $5k for the surgery and hospitalization, and being that it was something he needed that night I had to say goodbye.The staff were extremely helpful in the process, and made sure to let me take all the time I needed to hold him one last time. They explained everything as it happened and carefully carried him off. They were all very supportive and mentioned that it was a kind, peaceful passing.I got a sympathy card in the mail as well, which was so thoughtful. All through the process Thor was calm and content, I'm glad he had a kind staff to care for him, and I'm glad I had a kind staff to reassure me it was for the best. Thank you.
April 25 · Deanna RoopSaying goodbye to my 13-year-old Labrador sugar was one of the hardest moments of my life. Sugar was beyond anything they could do for her. I’m deeply grateful to the team for the way they carried us through it with compassion and grace. From the moment we walked in, they treated my dog not just as a patient, but as a cherished companion. They carried her out of the vehicle with gentle care and placed her on the stretcher. They gave us time, privacy, and respect—never rushing us, always prioritizing comfort and dignity.The staff explained every step with care and answered every question with patience. Even in such a painful situation, I found comfort in their warmth and professionalism. I’ll never forget how gently they handled everything, and I’ll always be thankful for the peaceful way they helped my wife and I say goodbye.
June 23 · Anthony BaudinoI brought my seriously injured cat in on a Saturday evening. I had never been to this hospital but they were the only place that was open. I was distraught obviously. The young woman at the desk took my cat back and comes back to tell me it will be $600 to see her and can you pay? She said it abruptly and her demeanor was not kind at all. I told her I did not have that and she asked me what I could pay. After some back and forth with what I could afford and credit offers; I called a relative to help. This front desk woman was not helpful or kind until the money was secured and meanwhile, I have no idea what is happening with my cat. Is she languishing in the back? Has anyone done anything to treat her severe injuries? I was not given any information and when I asked she said: "I am not a vet, I can't give you any information." It made a terrible situation worse. This person and maybe some of the other staff in the front need compassion training or to not work in this field. People are upset, they are distraught. I work in public service, I get it; compassion fatigue is real. In that case, you do your best and have a little empathy for people in an extremely stressful and dire situation. After I finally got a room, I could hear the staff in the back casually talking and laughing loudly and one of the staff members quickly came in and was behaving as if it was a routine exam and seemed to be unaware (or didn't care) that I was deeply upset. My cat had to be euthanized. The only people that offered words of kindness and sympathy were the male vet (who was wonderful) and the young lady who carried the box out to my car with my deceased cat. Jefferson is making what I imagine to be quite a lot of money off of people bringing pets in for an emergency as the nice facility seems to indicate. Pay your staff and train them to show compassion to clients who are contending with what equates to a family member in extreme pain. I would not go back there if given a choice.
