Was a rather horrific experience at this location in early May 2025. After 3 days of in-patient care, he left sicker - gravely ill actually- than when he arrived. He was discharged way too soon and you can see in the picture of his stomach how yellow he was a few hours after discharge. (This indicated that his bilirubin level was dangerously high — I later learned). He was far sicker than they assessed for discharge. We ended up spending $13,000 in medical care costs and he unfortunately passed away. I think he could’ve had a chance at surviving if VEG had taken better care of him. He was a four-year-old very healthy dog. VEG did not cause his illness, but they were ill-equipped and dangerously inept in his care. DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR A PET NEEDING URGENT CARE!!!!! - Lisa Fitzgerald

Introduction / Overview: Immediate, Inclusive Emergency Pet Care in Cincinnati, Ohio

For pet owners in the Cincinnati area of Ohio, knowing where to turn during a veterinary crisis is paramount. The Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) on Madison Road is a dedicated 24-hour emergency vet clinic and Animal Hospital designed to address the most urgent needs of your beloved companions. Unlike many standard clinics, VEG's entire focus is on emergency medicine, ensuring that a professional and compassionate team is always on standby, 24/7/365.

VEG is not just another emergency room; it’s built on a foundation of unique patient and client care philosophies. A defining feature that truly sets this location apart is its commitment to allowing pet owners to stay with their animal during the initial assessment and even certain procedures. As one client gratefully noted, "I loved that I could stay right there with our dog during his procedure," a policy that helps nervous pets—and their anxious owners—feel more comfortable and informed during a stressful time.

Beyond their dedication to continuous care for Dogs and Cats, this Veterinarian clinic also extends its expertise to less conventional pets. The team is equipped to provide emergency treatment for Birds, Exotic animals, and even Large animals, a crucial service for owners of specialized pets in the Ohio region who often struggle to find immediate, qualified care after hours.

The clinic also prioritizes an inclusive and welcoming environment for the entire community, specifically identifying as LGBTQ+ friendly and a Transgender safespace. This dedication to both medical and social care makes VEG a trusted and reliable resource for all Cincinnati pet families in their time of need. Features / Highlights

VEG Cincinnati stands out within the Ohio veterinary community for its specific operational policies and commitment to inclusivity, which together create a supportive environment during a pet emergency.

  • True 24/7 Emergency Focus: The clinic is not a general practice that also handles emergencies; it is a specialized 24-hour emergency vet clinic, meaning the team is always focused and equipped to manage critical cases immediately, day or night.
  • Owner-Inclusive Care Model: The policy allowing owners to stay with their pet during assessment and treatment is a major highlight, promoting a sense of partnership and reducing the stress that often accompanies Emergency Vet visits. This is a significant comfort for local pet families.
  • Exotic and Bird Emergency Expertise: Catering to a broader range of species, including Birds, Exotic animals, and Large animals, addresses a critical gap in after-hours emergency care for specialized pets in the Cincinnati area.
  • Commitment to Inclusivity: Clearly identifying as LGBTQ+ friendly and a Transgender safespace, coupled with Amenities like a Gender-neutral restroom, demonstrates a strong dedication to fostering a welcoming and safe environment for all members of the Ohio community, regardless of their background.
  • Flexible Payment Options: The facility accepts all major Credit cards and Debit cards, along with modern NFC mobile payments, providing various options to ease the financial stress of unexpected emergency care costs.
  • Compassionate and Communicative Staff: Even during a "busy overnight shift," the staff is noted for being "so friendly and caring" and for keeping owners "regularly updated," an essential element of a positive emergency care experience. What is Worth Choosing: Human-Centered Emergency Care

Choosing the Veterinary Emergency Group in Cincinnati is choosing an emergency care model that places the emotional well-being of the pet—and the owner—at the forefront of the medical process. The ability to stay with your dog during a procedure or assessment is a service rarely found elsewhere and is a significant advantage, particularly for owners of a "nervous senior dog." This human-centered approach, combined with the professionalism of the staff who "listened to his behavioral needs," can profoundly impact a pet's comfort level and, consequently, its overall care experience.

For owners of non-traditional companions, the specialized emergency services for Birds and Exotic animals provide a critical safety net that many general emergency hospitals cannot offer. Furthermore, the commitment to social inclusivity, highlighted by being an LGBTQ+ friendly and Transgender safespace, ensures a respectful and welcoming environment for every member of the Cincinnati community who walks through their doors. While a single highly negative review underscores the reality that complex, critical cases sometimes have poor outcomes despite best efforts—and that owner communication and discharge readiness are areas to monitor closely—the core value of VEG lies in its unique, highly supportive, 24/7 care philosophy for a diverse array of pets and owners. For immediate, owner-present emergency care in Ohio, VEG provides an essential and distinct service.
