VetMED Emergency & Specialty Veterinary Hospital Introduce
When a pet emergency strikes in the Arizona desert—whether a sudden illness, traumatic injury, or critical health issue—pet owners need immediate, expert help they can trust. VetMED Emergency & Specialty Veterinary Hospital, located in Phoenix, stands as a cornerstone of Advanced Diagnostic and therapeutic services for the greater Arizona community. This facility is a dual-purpose veterinary center, combining the essential services of a 24-Hour Emergency Pet Hospital with a high-level Specialty Referral practice.
The hospital is designed to be fully operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, ensuring that no matter the hour, dedicated and experienced ER Veterinarians are available to provide immediate Emergency Medicine and initial stabilization. This round-the-clock availability is critical for Small Animal Emergency situations such as Snake Bites, trauma, or sudden, life-threatening conditions.
Beyond immediate critical care, VetMED hosts a team of Veterinary Internists and board-certified specialists who focus on complex and chronic Health Issues. This comprehensive approach means that if a pet is stabilized in the ER Vet and requires advanced Ongoing Care, they can transition seamlessly into specialty departments like Veterinary Internal Medicine, Veterinary Dermatology, and Neurology Service. The hospital’s capacity to handle both urgent crises and long-term Specialty Referral cases, like advanced Pet Surgery and the treatment of severe Liver Disease or Kidney Disease, makes it a vital resource for pet owners and referring veterinarians throughout Arizona.

- Board-Certified Expertise: The presence of specialists, such as those in Veterinary Dermatology and Neurology Service, ensures pets with complex or chronic conditions—like Pet's Allergic skin issues or advanced Hip Dysplasia—receive the highest standard of care, often by referral from a Primary Care veterinarian. The detailed care and use of 'high tech equipment' for the dermatology patient, as described in a review, exemplify this commitment.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This comes a few months after our first visit to VetMed. After two trips to our own vet and still not knowing what was wrong with our cat Skippy we were told he needed a scan to see what was happening. We ended up taking him to VetMed on a Friday because we didn't know what else to do... he seemed on his last moments, not eating for days and lethargic with no energy. Dr. Hough was amazing and very empathetic. She knew Skippy was in trouble. They kept him all weekend, sent me text updates and pics of how he was doing numerous times a day. It was determined he had Cancer. They sent us home with meds and instructions on how to keep him comfortable until it was his time to leave us. Skippy lasted two months before we had to say goodbye! We cherished every minute we had left with him. We're truly so grateful to Dr. Hough and her team at VetMed and the endless compassion they showed for Skippy and us. It's been three weeks since Skippy left us and we felt it was time to let others know how wonderful Dr. Hough and VetMed are. Thank you so much!
October 06 · Cheryl C.The care and attention shown to my cat Geddy was outstanding. I brought Geddy in for a dermatology concern and he was so carefully treated by Yolissa the technician. Geddy needed some cleaning up because he didn't tolerate the car trip very well. Yolissa took care of everything making sure that Geddy was freshened up and prepared for his exam. Geddy has a bald patch on his ear and Dr. Song came in and spoke to Geddy in the most compassionate tones. Dr. Song took careful notes of Geddy's condition and examined him with some high tech equipment. Dr. Song even did a recheck for a condition that Geddy had several months ago(which was expertly corrected by Dr. Song). I was very much impressed with the attention Geddy received and the cost was much less than I anticipated. Yolissa was outstanding in preparing Geddy for his exam. I appreciated her efforts both prior to the exam and during the exam.Dr.Song appears to speak "cat" he made Geddy feel comfortable. I value Dr.Song's ability with my cat. The expert concern and compassion shown towards me and my pet.
October 03 · Desert RoseCare our Kitty received was skilled, comprehensive and compassionate. The Vet tech was very compassionate and really took the time to hear out concerns. Dr. Parker provided expertise and care and really spent the time listening and responding to our questions and concerns. What I appreciated most was the time that the Doctor spent caring for and discussing our cats condition with us
June 20 · Joy CarlsonWe are beyond grateful for the extraordinary care May received at VetMed. From the compassionate front desk team who comforted me while I filled out paperwork through tears, to the skilled and caring doctors, to the incredibly attentive nurses and vet techs—it was clear we had brought her to the right place.May spent EIGHT agonizing days in critical care related to a failed soft palate procedure, and while it was an emotional roller coaster, the team at VetMed saved her life. They made no false promises, but were always honest, transparent, and empathetic. They gave us the information we needed to make the best choices for May and for ourselves, balancing professionalism with compassion every step of the way.VetMed is truly different. They live their mission, and it shows in their culture of growth, education, and dedication. After researching extensively following May's near-death experience, I can say with confidence that we could not have been in better hands. VetMed wasn't the closest ER, but it was without question the best.Special thanks to Dr. Helgeson, Dr. Kupanoff, Dr. Lou, Dr. Lee, Dr. Parker, her nurses Meredith and Tina, the lovely front desk team Mars, Robin and Alannah. I wish I knew everyone's names but there were just so many wonderful people who cared for us and our girl. Thank you thank you thank you!
September 12 · Andrea DuffWe have taken our four legged family members to VetMED for almost 15 years now.I have always been impressed with the staff's sincere compassion and their ability to recognize the fear and panic a person is experiencing when they cannot be with their pet in the treatment area.I have always appreciated their care and support plus the updates while we wait for the doctor to attend to one of our animals.I have never had a bad experience with taking one of my pets to VetMED. Yes, sometimes the wait can be long; However, I realize that we are not the only patient and may not be the most critical case they are working on. It is very important for all of us to remember that while we wait. Most importantly, I trust Dr. Lee.She is an excellent doctor.VetMed on Cave Creek Road near the 101 is the only emergency hospital I would ever consider taking my animals to, and so should you!
