Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital (Mesa) Introduce
For those living in the Phoenix Metro area who share their homes with non-traditional companions—be it a beloved rabbit, a colorful parrot, a Bearded Dragon, or even a koi fish—finding expert, specialized veterinary care is not just a preference; it is a necessity. Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital (Mesa) fills this vital need, standing proudly as Arizona's first and largest veterinary hospital dedicated exclusively to exotic pets. They are not a general Animal Hospital that sees a few exotic animals on the side; this is a full-service, state-of-the-art facility where every doctor, technician, and piece of equipment is focused on the unique medical and surgical needs of Exotic Animal companions.
The commitment to specialized care is evident the moment you walk through the doors. Unlike traditional clinics, this environment is specifically designed to minimize stress for prey animals—it is spacious and quiet, intentionally avoiding the loud background noise of barking dogs, which can be immensely stressful for many exotic pets. This focus ensures a calm, safe, and comfortable experience for the full range of species they treat, including Amphibians, Fish, Invertebrates, Reptiles, Birds, and Small Mammals like rabbits and guinea pigs.
The dedication of their team is consistently praised by local pet owners. Veterinarians such as Dr. Lewis and Dr. Lamb are recognized for being not only exceptional veterinary professionals but also incredible humans—offering straightforward answers, showing genuine care, and patiently explaining all treatment options. One long-time client noted the incredible skill and kindness shown to their rabbits, while another highlighted the deep knowledge and passion the staff demonstrated when caring for their sick guinea pig and addressing its Dental Health concerns. This combination of world-class specialization and compassionate support is what makes Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital the trusted choice for the East Valley's most unique pets.
The hospital offers comprehensive Pet Veterinary Care, available seven days a week, covering everything from routine wellness to Intensive Care and Emergency Veterinary Services. They utilize advanced diagnostic tools like high-frequency Digital Radiographs, Video Endoscopy, and an In-House Laboratory capable of running Blood Testing on animals as small as a parakeet. Whether your pet needs Major Surgery, specialized Nutritional Counseling, or simply a safe place for Exotic Pet Boarding, this is the center that delivers care tailored to the specific biological and behavioral needs of non-traditional pets.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Lewis. She has taken care of both my rabbits with incredible skill and kindness. She’s very knowledgeable and always makes sure I understand all of my options. Dr. Lewis patiently answers any question, even if it’s the fourth time I’ve asked. When my rabbit Jonas passed last year (from natural causes), she and her team were amazing—professional, compassionate, and so supportive.Dr. Lewis is not only an exceptional veterinarian, she’s also just an incredible human. She gives me straightforward answers, never sugarcoats, and I’ve always felt that she genuinely cares rather than trying to upsell or overcharge. I trust her completely with my rabbits’ care and feel so grateful to have found her.
September 29 · Katy Kandaris-WeinerStaff very nice and welcoming from when you first walk in. The veterinarians as pretty well educated on guinea pigs and I really do appreciate their care for my piggies. I appreciate the receptionists, techs, and assistants as well. Thank you all! Dr. Lamb, Dr. Brandy K. And her tech were very helpful and knowledgeable in the care for my sick guinea pig and my other guinea pig who I was concerned for his dental health. They made me feel better after how they explained their finding and what we can do for treatments or to help "prevent" certain things that are still being worked on. Thank you all I really do appreciate all that you do for exotic pets! The knowledgeable veterinarians and staff about exotics overall and passion to help exotic pets like my guinea piggies! Negrito and Monty say thank you!! 🫶🏽
September 01 · Guadalupe BaltazarI feel really blessed to live near not one but two exotic vets. Many people around the country with exotic pets cannot find vets to care for their animals. But I love you guys (and I have used the avian one near you). I feel confident you know what is going on with my beardie. Thanks!! expertise
October 09 · Bridgett OakleyI honestly dont know if I got the correct service and or advice. I have Henrietta a 2 year old hen with no medical issues until 05/31/25 I found her limp in the coop. I presumed a strained or dislocated leg but they had 2 nurses come in and do a 5-7 min exam and told me without a doubt my hens right leg was broken higher up by the thigh and knee area. I did not get a x-ray because of the options plan explanation and costs. Im confused without explanation from the Vet Doctor on staff just 2 nurses 1 in pink and one in a blue scrubs. I dont believe either we're the veterinarian doctor so im confused if I got the 100$ exam I paid for. I left against medical advice because all options were to expensive 🙃 I cannot begin to fathom when health care will actually be affordable. It's a chicken 🐔 without x rays , pain meds , surgery. Why couldn't we like in the old days just try something even a splint without x rays . Doesn't need to be A-Class medical aid. Honestly they make u subconsciously feel bad that u can afford a procedure and give u a million options on ways to pay them to (help or kill ) your animal which is some how cheaper by a few hundred dollars 💸. Insane. I'm sorry they might be able to help other people with medical care but it mostly seems priced to keep the bills and staff paid . Which I dont mind , they went to school and work hard for us, but this is ridiculous. My chickens exam cost more than my human exam without health insurance 😢 😕 . Im going to have to cull my hen because lack of help or options to D.I.Y at home or half help from professionals and home care. This world will sadly stop seeking health care and you are just losing customers 😞. I will not recommend anyone to take their chicken here. It's a waste of time and money. They put my other hen down (penny 05/22/24) when I couldn't get her fixed right and the medical bills were 1000$ American dollars... i was hoping coming in and spending money would eventually bring down costs so people are more able to seek care. But quite the opposite. Be prepared with your pockets full of money. I had money at one point in time and spent every penny I could on my anmials. But now when times are tough, im shunned and made felt I dont know what im doing care wise for my animals from the( pink staff lady) I mentioned above. The (blue staff girl) just ran paper work and weighed my Henrietta. Im not mad at the staff per say . More upset at the whole care system setup. Im sure dogs and cats are more profitable or important in some eyes but coming to and exotics vet I'd think there would be some wiggle room . Nope go ahead ask them how much it is to euthanize or care for your animals before you drive out. Save both parties time and money. We are all running out of money. Sad 😔 day . Again this isn't out of emotion this was purely out of experience that I had Today. I hope I didn't get a false exam by students and not a real veterinarian doctor. 100$ is a lot of money to some people.
May 31 · panndaacookies213My experience here was truly remarkable. My vet, the nurse, the staff, the receptionist. Incredible. They helped me understand what was wrong with my bearded dragon and they kindly walked me through the process of putting her to sleep. The vet took extra care in reassuring me it wasn’t my fault, and the path I chose was the right one for her. I felt incredibly safe at this place and treated with such kindness. I miss my dragon daily, but thanks to this place she’s been laid beautifully to rest. Thank you Arizona Exotics.
